Legislative Agenda

Legislative Agenda (2008)

Property Tax System

We believe the state should create a more equitable and simplified property tax system that encourages business development throughout the state.

Tax Increment Financing (TIF)

We strongly encourage the state to support and protect Tax Increment Financing.

Fair Share

We strongly oppose any legislation that would force public or non-public workers to pay unions for their services.

Average Wage

We encourage the state to change the average wage criteria used for the Grow Iowa Values Fund. Instead of using 130% of the county average wage as the criteria to access funding, we believe the state should use 130% of the county average entry wage.

Car and Truck Tax

We believe the truck tax should be increased to equal the current car tax. The additional income generated by this change should go to support the repair and upkeep of our state highways.

Silo Tax

We believe the Silo Tax should be voted on, collected, and disbursed at the local level. We would oppose a change that would give this control to the state.

Core Curriculum

We believe the state should mandate a rigorous curriculum for all public high schools.

New Iowan Centers

We encourage the state to continue the support of New Iowan Centers. They are a valuable tool in the delivery of training and support services to new Iowans.
