Mount Pleasant residents have used a volume based fee system to pay for their solid waste collection since October 1990. The volume-based system requires residents to put a 'garbage sticker' on each 30-gallon bag of garbage to be collected or on each bag inside a 33-gallon can. The stickers cost $1.50 each and are green in color. Stickers are available at the grocery stores and convenience stores in Mount Pleasant.
For garbage collection to occur, your garbage must:
be at the curb by 7:00 am
have a garbage sticker
be in a garbage can with maximum size of 33 gallons or in a garbage bag with maximum size of 30 gallons. Garbage cans must have handles and must weigh no more than 45 pounds.

If you have any questions about the recycling services, you may contact the Solid Waste Commission at 1.800.216.8126.
Spring Clean Up
The City of Mount Pleasant organizes a Spring Clean Up Day each year. Spring Clean Up is a one-week opportunity to rid your home of those unusual or large items that are too big to fit into a garbage bag for your regular garbage collection day. The collection work is done by Whaley Waste Systems of Mount Pleasant. All residents of Mount Pleasant are eligible for Spring Clean Up services. This includes apartment complexes, mobile homes parks, single-family homes, duplexes, triplexes, etc. You are eligible to participate in the Spring Clean Up even if you do not use the City's regular garbage collection services.
