Mount Pleasant offers a wide variety of cultural activities, events, and destinations for citizens and guests.
Mount Pleasant Community Theater Association
Established in 1969, the theater group provides performance experiences for audiences, actors, and production personnel. The association has performed a wide variety of productions including The Sound of Music, The King and I, Beauty and the Beast, and many other dramas and children's plays to wide community acclaim.
The Mount Pleasant Public Library satisfies literary needs with a collection of more than 52,000 items. Housed in the newly renovated Library and Civic Center, the library offers 19,000 square feet of space complete with state of the art technology and dedicated children's and genealogy research areas. Summer reading programs for children, a story hour for preschoolers, and a range of adult programming are also offered.
Mount Pleasant Civic Center
The newly renovated Mount Pleasant Civic Center offers a 350 seat auditorium with an art deco theme. A variety of performances are scheduled at the Civic Center each year including movie nights, children's plays, concerts, and professional performances.
Music lovers will thrill to the sounds of the Southeast Iowa Symphony. The orchestra has a subscription series and performs annual school tours, pop concerts, and summer concerts. Youth competitions and string festivals are also part of the orchestra's programming.
